The meeting was called to order at 7:26 p.m. and adjourned at 8:13 p.m.

    That the agenda for the Age-Friendly Brampton Advisory Committee meeting of June 22, 2021 be approved as published and circulated.

The minutes were considered by Planning and Development Committee on June 21, 2021, and are pending approval by Council on July 7, 2021. The minutes were provided for information.

Alex Taranu, Sr Advisor, Design Environment & Development, Public Works and Engineering, provided a presentation on the Brampton Riverwalk Program - Urban Design Master Plan. The following topics were highlighted:

  • Policy and context support
  • Work components
  • Advocacy, communication and engagement
  • Timelines - 2011 -2023
  • Urban Design Master Plan (UDMP) - Overview
    • design vision update
    • work to date - environment, sustainability, public health focus
    • implementation of Brampton's eco park
    • design drivers and directions, approaches, intent
    • design intent and concept - focus on five areas and parks
  • Downtown revitalization and development - Riverwalk area
  • Riverwalk project - conclusion include
    • protection from flood and disasters
    • generate employment, attract people and investment
    • make a resilient, sustainable, healthy downtown and City

Committee discussion on this matter included clarification from staff with respect to the following:

  • Potential temporary relocation of the Farmers' Market to Rosalea Park
  • Parking provisions for downtown given the intent is to revitalize downtown the attract more people 
    • a parking strategy will be considered in the overall review of the integrated development plan with the focus on people and sustainable mobility 
  • Timelines and frequency for construction infrastructure projects for downtown
    • a coordinated approach will be undertaken with respect to scheduling and phasing the projects to minimize impact on the area

The following motion was considered:

    1. That the presentation by Alex Taranu, Sr Advisor, Design Environment and Development, Public Works and Engineering, to the Age-Friendly Brampton Advisory Committee meeting of June 22, 2021, re: Riverwalk Urban Design Master Plan be received.
