Note: In consideration of the current COVID-19 public health orders prohibiting large public gatherings of people and requirements for physical distancing between persons, in-person attendance at this Committee of Council meeting was limited and physical distancing was maintained in Council Chambers at all times during the meeting.

The meeting was called to order at 5:15 p.m. and adjourned at 6:29 p.m.

Due to technical difficulties of Co-Chair Pauline Thornham and in the absence of Co-Chair Rani Gill, Councillor Santos assumed the role of Chair.
 

As this meeting of the Cycling Advisory Committee was conducted with electronic participation by Members of the Committee, the meeting started with the City Clerk calling the roll for attendance at the meeting, as follows:

Members present during roll call:

Members absent during roll call: Rani Gill (Co-Chair) (regrets), Patrick McLeavey

The following motion was considered. 

  • CYC016-2021

    That the agenda for the Cycling Advisory Committee Meeting of June 15, 2021, be approved, as published and circulated.

    Carried

The minutes were considered by Planning and Development Committee on May 10, 2021, and were approved by Council on May 19, 2021.  The minutes were provided for Committee’s information.

Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning, Building and Economic Development, provided an overview of the Share the Road Cycling Coalition “Wheels of Change Awards”, and responded to questions of clarification from Committee.

Committee discussion on this matter included the following:

  • Committee consensus to nominate Councillor Santos for the Community Champion for Wheels of Change Award.
  • Committee consensus to nominate Bike Brampton for the Community Organization for Wheels of Change Award.
  • Staff advised that the next sub-committee meeting will be structured around the nominee application process and meeting the submission deadline of October 8, 2021. 

The following motion was considered.

    That the presentation from Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning Building and Economic Development, to the Cycling Advisory Committee of June 15, 2021, re: The Share The Road Cycling Coalition "Wheels of Change Awards" be received.

Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning, Building and Economic Development, provided an overview of the Share the Road Cycling Coalition Bicycle Friendly Community Program, and responded to questions of clarification from Committee regarding the status of the by-law review pertaining to cycling and the gathering of collision data.

The following motion was considered. 

  • CYC018-2021

    1. That the presentation from Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning Building and Economic Development, to the Cycling Advisory Committee of June 15, 2021, re: The Share The Road Cycling Coalition Bicycle Friendly Community Program be received; and, 

    2. That it is the position of the Cycling Advisory Committee that the City of Brampton apply for Bicycle Friendly Community Silver Status.

Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning, Building and Economic Development, provided an overview of the Priority ‘Shovel Ready’ Projects to Inform Funding Opportunities with Higher Levels of Government, and responded to questions of clarification from Committee.

The following motion was considered.

    That the presentation from Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning Building and Economic Development, to the Cycling Advisory Committee of June 15, 2021, re: Priority 'Shovel Ready'  Projects to Inform Funding Opportunities with Higher Levels of Government be received.

    That the Cycling Advisory Committee Sub-committee Minutes - May 4, 2021, to the Cycling Advisory Committee of June 15, 2021 be received.

The following motion was considered. 

  • CYC021-2021

    That the Cycling Advisory Committee Sub-committee Minutes - May 20, 2021, to the Cycling Advisory Committee of June 15, 2021 be received.

    Carried

Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning, Building and Economic Development, provided an overview of the Design of Adjacent Bike and Parking Lanes, and responded to questions of clarification from Committee.

Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning, Building and Economic Development, provided an overview of the Planned Infrastructure Along Clark Boulevard, and responded to questions of clarification from Committee

Tammi Jackson, Legislative Coordinator, confirmed that no questions were submitted regarding decisions made at this meeting.

The following motion was considered.

    That the Cycling Advisory Committee do now adjourn to meet again on Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at 5:00 p.m. or at the call of the Chair.
