The meeting was called to order at 6:33 p.m. and adjourned at 7:07 p.m.

    That the agenda for the Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting of July 12, 2022, be approved as published and circulated.

The minutes were considered by Committee of Council on April 27, 2022, and approved by Council on May 4, 2022.  The minutes were provided for Committee’s information.

Andrew Charles, Supervisor, Planning, Brampton Transit, provided an update on Brampton Transit, highlighting the following: 

  •  Transit Capital Improvements
    • Stops & Shelters
  •  Information & Covid-19
    • EnAbling Change
    • Impacts to Brampton Transit

Committee discussion included following 
•    Overcrowding in buses and challenges staff are experiencing to address the issues  resulting from the pandemic, such as, absenteeism and lack of staff of resources 
•    Indication that some Transit terminals already offer bathroom amenities and new Transit hubs are being designed to include such amenities
•    Ridership during the pandemic - advised that government grants have assisted to offset loss of revenues 
•    Details on Transit plans to hire and train new employees
•    Accessibility seating capacity have not been an issue 
•    Details on the percentages of accessible bus stops, budget and timeframe for making all bus stops accessible
•    Suggestion that sidewalks should be a requirement in industrial areas 
•    Requirements for accessible stops follow AODA guidelines and staff work with other Transit agencies to ensure consistency with requirements

    That the correspondence from David Lepofsky, to the Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting of July 12, 2022, re: Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act Alliance Update be received.

    That the Accessibility Advisory Committee meeting of July 12, 2022, do now adjourn to meet again on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 at 6:30 p.m.
