The meeting was called to order at 7:11 p.m. and adjourned at 8:43 p.m.

As this meeting of the Cycling Advisory Committee was conducted with electronic participation by Members of the Committee, the meeting started with the City Clerk calling the roll for attendance at the meeting, as follows:

Members present during roll call: Pauline Thornham (Co-Chair), Lisa Stokes (Co-Chair), Stephen Laidlaw, Barry Lavallee, Patrick McLeavey;  Alina Grzejszczak, Remi Parent, 

Members absent during roll call:  Regional Councillor Rowena Santos, Laura Bowman, Leslie Benfield, Dayle Laing, Eric Lister, Tony Pinheiro, Rani Gill.

The following motion was considered. 

  • CYC020-2022

    That the agenda for the Cycling Advisory Committee Meeting of June 16, 2022, be approved as amended:

    To add: 
    6.1  Verbal update from Lisa Stokes, Co-Chair, re: Community Rides Program 
    6.2  Verbal update from Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning, Building and Economic Development, re: Community Rides Social Media Campaign

The minutes were considered by Planning and Development Committee on May 16, 2022, and were approved by Council on May 18, 2022.  The minutes were provided for Committee’s information.

Mirella Palermo, Planner, Planning, Building and Economic Development, provided an overview of the New Horizons for Seniors Program 2022 - Designing Spaces for Seniors – Laneway Activation Pilot Program, and responded to questions of clarification from Committee.

Committee discussion on this matter included the following:

  • Clarification that the pilot project runs until early to mid fall of 2022. 
  • Outlined the goal is to create spaces for the elderly that are under serviced. 
  • The following suggestions and concerns were  made by the Committee:
    • Incorporate music and entertainment within a short walking distance
    • Contact Grace Court apartment building on Scott Street in Brampton - large senior community
    • An increase in street furniture in needed within the downtown core
    • Lacking shaded areas in the downtown core for individuals to rest under
    • No water outlet stations in the downtown core. The implementation of a water stations would should be considered.

The following motion was considered.

    That the staff presentation re: New Horizons for Seniors Program 2022 - Designing Spaces for Seniors – Laneway Activation Pilot Program to the Cycling Advisory Committee Meeting of June 16, 2022 be received.

Lisa Stokes, Co-Chair, provided an update on the Community Rides Program, and responded to questions of clarification from Committee. Ms. Stokes encouraged members to sign up to volunteer for upcoming community rides. 

The following motion was considered.

    That the verbal update from Lisa Stokes, Co-Chair, to the Cycling Advisory Committee Meeting of June 16, 2022, re: Community Rides Programs, be received.

Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning, Building and Economic Development, provided an update on the Community Rides Social Media Campaign, and responded to questions of clarification from Committee.

The following motion was considered. 

  • CYC023-2022

    That the verbal update from Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning Building and Economic Development, to the Cycling Advisory Committee Meeting of June 16, 2022, re: Community Rides Social Media Campaign, be received.

Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning, Building and Economic Development, provided an update on the 2022 BCAC Cycling Events/Programs, and responded to questions of clarification from Committee.

The following motion was considered.

    That the verbal update from Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning Building and Economic Development, to the Cycling Advisory Committee Meeting of June 16, 2022, re: 2022 BCAC Cycling Events/Programs, be received.

Nelson Cadete, Project Manager, Active Transportation, Planning, Building and Economic Development, advised the Active Transportation team has four new members and that they would be assisting regularly with the Committee.

    
Staff responded to questions from David Laing, Brampton Resident, regarding the following: 

  • 2022 Bike to work day
  • Possibility of organizing a bike to work day in September 2022

    
The public was given the opportunity to submit questions via e-mail to the City Clerk’s Office regarding any decisions made at this meeting.

Tammi Jackson, Legislative Coordinator, confirmed that no questions were submitted regarding decisions made at this meeting.

The following motion was considered. 

  • CYC025-2022

    That the Cycling Advisory Committee do now adjourn to meet again on Thursday, August 18, 2022 at 7:00 p.m. or at the call of the Chair.
